Voices from the Homeland

Voices from the Homeland
is a collection of poems that breathes life into Ghana’s cities, towns, and villages. Each poem is a drumbeat—sometimes gentle as dawn in Dodome, where the hills cradle silence and first light, other times fierce as Ashaiman’s midnight sirens, restless and unyielding. Between these extremes lie the steady footsteps of Kumasi’s markets, the quiet resilience of fishing boats rocking at Jamestown, and the hymns rising with the harmattan winds through northern plains.

Together, they form one rhythm: the heartbeat of a people whose stories are carved in wood, woven into kente, and whispered in proverbs older than memory. This anthology is not just written with ink but with dust carried from unpaved roads, with silence heavy as ancestral shrines, with laughter that erupts like palm wine foam, and with prayer that bends knees and lifts voices skyward.

It is both mirror and window—reflecting who we are in our strength, our contradictions, our tenderness, and our defiance, while also opening outward to what we might yet become. In these pages, the homeland is not only remembered; it is reimagined, lived, and carried forward in every word.
