Beneath the Surface

If you see me happy,
too excited,
don’t dismiss it as abnormal
just because you often find me
reserved and observed.
Leave me alone,
let me relish the joy
that I deserve
while it lasts.
Others claim I appear too old
for my age,
burdened by responsibilities—
I couldn’t maintain a youthful facade;
it wasn’t as if I had a choice.
Expectations tower over me,
higher than my height.
It’s not that I’m unfriendly;
my current stage demands business discussions
to bolster my revenue.
Some perceive me as responsible,
a father figure, to be precise,
yet I’m still grappling to understand myself,
struggling to figure myself out.
