Lost in Between

Lost in Between
Yes, it felt like yesterday
But only in memories and dreams
Of what may have become.
Your hair used to be darker,
Time has taken so much already.
From afar, I see the changes.
I wish life would be a little more lenient,
Give a little space so I don’t have to choose
Between surviving and living.
Yet my feet don’t always follow my heart.
I vowed I would be home every weekend,
Yet when the week ends,
I am also weak at the end.
Each visit, I pray it is not my last.
I know how you used to call my name
Far from the door, you always found me,
Even in the dark.
Now you keep asking, *who is that?*
I guess time has faded me from your mind.
I hold no grudges.
You have tried.
I know you weren’t used to phone calls,
You could not always be there,
And some things I chose to shield you from,
Like the passing of your friend.
In a blink, years are gone.
I long to share some news,
But worry has quietly kept so
much from reaching you.
My mouth trembles as you
always come to mind.
Know that I love you
more than I have ever said.
